Square Bird
More games to play
Square Bird is a one-tap arcade game where you guide a little square bird across platforms by laying eggs beneath it. Tap to keep stacking, let go to stop. The taller your egg tower, the higher and farther your bird can travel. It plays free in the browser on desktop and mobile, no download needed. The sessions are short, which makes it a good fit if you want something quick between other things or if you are on a school or work break.
What is Square Bird?
Square Bird is a hyper-casual arcade game built around a single loop: tap to lay eggs, release to glide. Your bird moves forward automatically, and the eggs you stack underneath it form a tower that lifts it over walls and gaps. Tap too little and you fall short. Tap too long and the tower collapses under its own height. The game is in the arcade category and is aimed at quick play, easy to understand in under a minute.
Tapping and egg-stacking controls
The whole game runs on one input. On desktop you click and hold; on mobile you tap and hold. The bird lays eggs as long as you hold, and stops when you release.
| Action | Desktop | Mobile |
|---|---|---|
| Stack eggs (hold) | Click and hold | Tap and hold |
| Stop stacking (release) | Release mouse button | Lift finger |
| Restart after a fall | Click / tap | Tap |
Gaps, walls, and how progress works
Each level is a side-scrolling course with a mix of open gaps and raised walls. You need enough egg height to clear the walls, but not so much that the tower becomes unstable and tips the bird off the edge. Levels get longer and the obstacles appear in tighter sequences as you move further.
| Obstacle type | What to do |
|---|---|
| Low wall | A short burst of tapping is enough |
| Tall wall | Hold longer to build a higher tower |
| Wide gap | Keep a steady height across the whole gap |
| Back-to-back walls | Tap in short controlled bursts |
Tips for keeping the bird alive
- Watch what is coming ahead, not just the current obstacle. A wall immediately after a gap means you need to start tapping before you finish crossing.
- Short holds beat long ones in most cases. Overtapping wastes eggs and destabilises the tower.
- When in doubt on a gap, hold a bit longer than you think you need. Falling short ends the run instantly.
- If a level is giving you trouble, the pattern is fixed, so one or two retries is usually enough to read the timing.
